Behind the Lines: The Year’s Best Political Cartoons
Exhibition on display at MoADOPH from 9 December 2010 – 20 March 2011.
Take a journey back over the year in Australian politics with Behind the Lines: The Year’s Best Political Cartoons.
Cartoons have always reflected key moments in Australia history. Behind the Lines brings together the best political cartoons of 2010 in a unique exhibition which documents the highs and lows of the political year.
2010 offered endless inspiration for cartoonists. The climate change debate, mining tax conflict, political party leadership spills and thrills, a federal election, the “new paradigm” and more feature in cartoons published in newspapers and magazines across Australia. The cartoons featured in Behind the Lines provide an insightful record of a turbulent and unpredictable year in Australian politics. They are provocative, powerful and playful, they both entertain and inform.
The exhibition celebrates the artistic talents of Australia’s established political cartoonists including Jon Kudelka, David Pope, Michael Leunig and Reg Lynch as well as recognising the talents of a new generation such as Maurice Argiro and Rob Duong.
Behind the Lines is a travelling exhibition developed by the National Museum of Australia in association with the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.
