Hole in the wall…
And in the ceiling and the paint work looks quite rough too. Why doesn’t the museum fix this corner? We leave it like this, because it is like an archaeological site revealing the history of the building. For example, it reveals construction techniques common at the time of building in 1927, such as the use of horse hair to strengthen plaster sheets. It also shows that the corridors were painted different colours at different times. Much is revealed but not all is explained. For instance, why are there so many holes in this one spot? Why was this corridor once painted a deep, dark red?
Like all good archaeological sites, this one raises as many questions as it answers. For these and other enigmas, visit the museum. We have several heritage reveals on public display.
