As the much–loved home to Federal Parliament from 1927 until 1988, Old Parliament House is the place where Australia’s rich social and political history comes alive. For more than 60 years, this significant heritage building was the backdrop to major events in Australian history—and we’re still making history today.
Part of the 75th Birthday Celebrations
In 2002 Old Parliament House celebrated its 75th birthday with a National Schools Banner Competition (NSBC). Schools from across Australia were invited to design a banner depicting key events and people from the 75 year history of Old Parliament House.
Ten finalists from each state and territory were selected to make the banner they designed. These banners went on display at Old Parliament House from Saturday 8 June 2002 and a cash prize of $1000 was awarded to the best primary and the best high school entry and to the People’s Choice Award.
