PLAY UP—The Right to Shelter is now open!
PLAY UP pokes its tongue out at the idea that museums are hands off. This fabulous space allows children to stand up, dress up, make up, think up and step up in a way that has turned the traditional idea of what goes on in museums completely on its head. It is a living and evolving space curated for, with and by children.
PLAY UP—The Right to Play opened in August 2014, and has proven to be one of the museum’s most popular new spaces for families. The museum is very excited to bring you the new theme for the exhibition PLAY UP—The Right to Shelter, which looks at Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN, 1995).
PLAY UP celebrates the important role children have in the cultural life of our communities. The new exhibition will ask young visitors to imagine how different life would be without their bedroom, favourite food or a warm jacket. By engaging with the activities in PLAY UP, children will think about their own rights and those of other children around the world, all while having fun!
