Democracy in a Box is a free, reusable toolkit filled with engaging democracy and civics learning resources designed for students in years 5 and 6.
Through this resource, teachers and students will explore the fundamental principles of democracy and the importance of active citizenship with engaging lesson plans, picture books, games, posters and more
Apply for Democracy in a Box
Year 5 and 6 teachers based in regional and remote Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania are invited to apply for a Democracy in a Box and share their feedback on this new program.
Successful participants will receive their free Democracy in a Box at the beginning of Term 1 for use in 2027.

Cost and requirements
There is no cost for Democracy in a Box or postage. This has been made possible through generous public donations.
Schools in regional and remote locations across Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania will be prioritised.
As part of this program, teachers will be required to complete a short feedback form sharing their experiences utilising the resources.
Australian Curriculum Links
Democracy in a Box aligns with the Australian Curriculum (9.0) History and Social Sciences Key Learning Area, with English, Cross-Curriculum and General Capabilities also included.
