Under the Hat

'Under the Hat' by Brett Lethbridge is an illustration published in the Courier Mail on the 31st of August, 2025, referencing Queensland politician Bob Katter’s press conference a few days prior. 

In the top left corner of the image is the title, 'Under the Hat.' Against a plain grey background, Bob Katter, seen from the chest up, points an accusatory finger off to the left side. His face is contorted in mid-sentence, with his mouth open, showing his teeth. His large glasses are clouded by steam. In his other hand, he holds his signature large white Akubra hat, which he has taken off his head.  

From atop his head, an exploding volcano blows orange lava and black smoke outwards. 

In the bottom right corner is the artist’s signature, 'Lethbridge'. 

The label text reads: 

Bob Katter Jnr formed Katter’s Australian Party in 2011. While no longer its leader, he is the only member of the party in Federal Parliament and still manages to grab the headlines. In August Katter had a heated exchange with a Channel 9 journalist who brought up his Lebanese heritage during a press conference in which Katter threw his support behind recent anti-immigration rallies.
