Floods

A movie poster. Houses and cars are swept away in a flood. Text reads: 'From the makers of 2020: 2021. Just when you thought it was safe to go outside... Now streaming'.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian called the major flooding across eastern Australia a ‘one-in-100-year event’. The natural disaster, which impacted several areas still recovering from 2020’s Black Summer bushfires, cost five lives and caused the evacuation of 18,000 people. Many wondered if 2021 would turn out to be worse than the year before.
