Ceasefire Now

Text says, 'Ceasefire now…' In a four-panel comic, a man with a Palestinian flag on his shirt knocks on a building labelled 'International Humanitarian Law.' The building, just a façade, collapses to reveal harried aid workers.

In April Australian Zomi Frankcom was one of seven aid workers killed when an Israeli airstrike hit a World Central Kitchen aid convoy in Gaza. The aid workers had received permission from Israeli authorities to enter Gaza to begin distributing food. Israel described the deaths as ‘tragic’ and ‘unintentional’, and promised an investigation. David Pope wonders whether, in times of conflict, the rule of international humanitarian law is just a façade.
