AUKUS

In a six-panel comic, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese sits with Defence Minister Richard Marles. Albanese says, 'So, are we all good with AUKUS?' Marles says, 'Absolutely. I mean, apart from the humongous expense… and the lack of a local industry… and the fact we won't see them for decades… and the US may soon be run by a dangerous narcissist… so yeah-nah, all good to go.'

According to details released in March, the AUKUS pact deal to build nuclear-powered submarines is expected to cost between $268 billion and $368 billion, an investment that extends from now to the mid-2050s. It is also intended to provide advanced military capabilities for Australia. Cathy Wilcox shows an exchange between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Defence Minister Richard Marles which highlights the deal’s minuses rather than its pluses.
