In 2022 eastern Australia experienced one of the nation’s worst ever flood disasters. Twenty-two people died as a result of floods that affected communities as far north as Maryborough and as far south as Sydney. Residents had to be rescued from their roofs as their houses were inundated. When the waters receded, many found their homes to be uninhabitable – and potentially uninsurable.
