Mid Winter Fishing

In the years since the Uluru Statement from the Heart (2017) called for a constitutionally enshrined Voice to parliament, opinion polls regularly recorded high levels of support from the Australian public. By mid-July 2023, however, the public mood had changed, with combined national polls showing support had dipped to below 50 per cent. Dean Alston suggests that perhaps Anthony Albanese is going about the referendum the wrong way, given the outcome he wants.
