Battleship Politics

Text reads, 'Battleship Politics.' Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton and Defence Minister Richard Marles play the boardgame Battleships. On Dutton's side are ships labelled 'Giles', 'Albo' and 'Angry women,' and on the board lies a drunk Barnaby Joyce.

Like so many David Rowe cartoons, this one contains multitudes. In February Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was fighting off attacks from Defence Minister Richard Marles about the state in which the previous Coalition government had left the RAN fleet. It had been a busy month: Dutton had also recently attacked Immigration Minister Andrew Giles, who had defended angry responses to Nationals Senator Matt Canavan’s comments calling the gender pay gap report ‘useless data’, and former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce was filmed lying on his back on a busy Canberra street.
