Riding Shotgun

Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia Michele Bullock sit in a wagon labelled 'Australian Economy,' which is pulled by a dead horse. Bullock shoots a gun labelled 'rate rises' at a dragon with 'inflation' across its back.

It’s a familiar trope, the inflation dragon, but cartoonists return to it again and again. Brett Lethbridge shows the dragon circling the wagon being driven by Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Michele Bullock. Yet again, the RBA had floated the possibility of hiking interest rates to slay the dragon, but in the end it held them steady. Lethbridge shows Bullock, riding shotgun, unloading on the beast.
