Matt Huynh

Matt Huynh is a Vietnamese-Australian brush and ink artist working in New York. Huynh was awarded Emmy and Peabody Awards for Reeducated (2021), his animated VR documentary on the detention of ethnic and religious minorities in the Xinjiang detention camps. His interactive comics The Boat (2015) and Cabramatta (2019) have both been honoured: the former received a World Illustration Awards and the latter was nominated for an Eisner Award. Huynh’s visual storytelling interrogates the vast repercussions of war, with a focus on diasporic refugee narratives and the experiences of asylum seekers and migrant communities. Huynh’s animations, comics and illustrations have been exhibited by the MoMA, The Smithsonian, the Brooklyn Museum and the New York Historical Society.
