The Band Marched On

A marching band branded with the words 'Nobody left behind' passes a homeless person. One band member asks who the homeless person is, the leader replies, 'Nobody'.

‘Nobody left behind’ was a catchcry of Labor’s 2022 federal election campaign, promising a government that would protect Australia’s most vulnerable. In the lead-up to the 2023–24 federal Budget, the government revealed proposed funding to ease cost-of-living pressures, such as an increase to Jobseeker payments for over-55s. But their measures faced criticism for not going far enough.
