Greta - Humanity

'Greta - Humanity,' by Nordacious, is a  illustration self-published on the 6th of June 2025. It is a portrait-oriented image of activist Greta Thunberg created in the style of multi-layer linocut prints, with clear blocks of colours.  

The top third of the image is a pale blue sky, topped with white clouds. The middle third image is a tall, dark wave in a dark ocean, peaking in white foam. 

In the bottom third of the image is the prow of a boat. We view it from the prow, moving forward into the huge wave rising above us. At the centre is a back view of Greta Thunberg’s head, her dark blonde hair whipped about by the wind. She wears a red shirt and a keffiyeh, a black and white scarf worn by Palestinians and supporters. 

Along the bottom of the image is a Greta Thunberg quote in black text, 'We are doing this because no matter what odds we are against, we have to keep trying, because the moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity,' with the last four words in red text. 

The label text reads: 

Since 2007, when Hamas came to power, Israel has imposed a naval blockade of Gaza to stop arms entering the coastal enclave. On 2 March 2025 it imposed a total aid blockade. Within three months, the World Health Organization was reporting starvation, acute malnutrition and deaths in Gaza. In June Freedom Flotilla activists sailed a yacht carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza that was intercepted by Israel. Among the detained activists was Swedish climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg. Israel declared the aid on the ‘selfie yacht’ would be transferred to Gaza 'through real humanitarian channels'.
