1927 - The first Australian commemorative coin marked the 1927 opening of this building, the provisional Parliament House in Australia’s new capital city, Canberra.

The first Australian commemorative coin marked the 1927 opening of this building, the provisional Parliament House in Australia’s new capital city, Canberra. The coin was later incorporated into this charming spoon, with a kookaburra affixed to the stem. The coin is a florin, which was equal to two shillings. It brought an image of Parliament House into homes around Australia, including for those unable to see it in person.
