In late May Immigration Minister Andrew Giles was questioned on Sky News about the federal government’s measures to monitor 153 immigration detainees released after a High Court ruling on indefinite detention. After it was revealed that nearly a fifth of those released had reoffended in Australia, and some of them were not wearing ankle bracelets, the minister responded by claiming that police used various measures to monitor them, including drones. This statement was later found to be incorrect.
