Terror Threat

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and ASIO chief Mike Burgess hold up the bar for a pole vaulting Grim Reaper with a bomb strapped to his back and a scythe labelled 'Terrorism.' The landing mat is labelled 'Terror threat'. Albanese says, 'Should we raise it Mike?'

In August, the same month as the Paris Summer Olympics, the Prime Minister explained why Australia’s terrorism threat level had been raised from ‘possible’ to ‘probable’. ASIO spy chief Mike Burgess said Australians ‘should be aware but not afraid’. David Rowe draws the two events together, with the ‘Grim Reaper’ attempting to pole vault over the new threat level. Days later, Australian athlete Nina Kennedy won gold for Australia in the pole vault - though she used a more traditional-style pole.
