The selectors

Whether you're trying to get a guernsey in the local pub's touch footy B-team or a bib for the world champion Australian Diamonds netball team, selection night can be a nervous, but electrifying, wait.

In 2024 democracy experienced a selection night on a global scale with more than 80 countries and more than half the world's population voting in elections. The elections that got our cartoonists particularly fired up were held in the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia — all of them riveting spectacles whether your team colour is blue, red or dictator grey.

Back home, Australians went to the polls for federal byelections in Dunkley (Melbourne) and Cook (Sydney), and state and territory elections in Tasmania, the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory and Queensland.
